چکیده

This poem is commentary on our dominant paradigm of epidemiological knowledge production racial health inequities. The core animating concern here structural racism—not just as a thing ‘out there’ to study in relation inequities, but also ‘in here’ that shapes how we do what and who gets it—that is, epistemic methodological norms, matters inclusion representation raise questions about procedural distributive justice. Of particular emphasis, indicated by the title x/y axis, ‘colourblind’ racism embedded within (mis)use ‘race’ inequities research, unexamined producing whom. suggestion epidemiology’s structurally racist, racial-capitalist, settler-colonial epistemically violent: with discourse dominated extractivist, reductionist, positivist work done disproportionately White scholars making professional economic livings researching communities colour (i.e. data expropriation commodification) all while frequently misusing rarely engaging racism—including manifest epidemiology field itself. Here, I consider this be violence erasure sense knowledges ‘known’ are, almost exclusively, form reductionist empirical representations—curated mostly scholars—that focus deficits/problems have effect pathologizing stigmatizing. Thus, are present, represented, recognizable valued when rendered estimates, graphs bar charts—our lives (in world) begin ‘die’ (e.g. ‘a death no preceding life birth, it not?’).
